American hunters are some of history's most famous, including Buffalo Bill Cody. Buffalo Bill was a legendary buffalo runner who killed nearly four thousand bison over the course of the 19th-century. He was also famous for his hunting skills. He was the first American to shoot buffalo using a trapdoor Springfield Model 1866. He even defeated a Henry repeater at a shooting contest. Ernest Hemingway, while in Wyoming, once stayed at Cody's Chamberlin Inn. He went to Cody with Jack, his second wife Pauline, and his son Jack. He went on to Cody to see the L Bar T ranch. St. George Littledale

Legend has it, that St. George Littledale once hunted the Canadian Arctic tur. Littledale became frustrated by the misty mountains that covered the area and stopped him seeing the tur. Littledale and his companions waited for Littledale to return to the camp every morning, but they were unable to locate it because of the mist. They finally reached a high point in the mountains to find the tur. Littledale and his guide had been waiting for them since the early morning hours, and Littledale had already woken up at two a.m. and returned home by 8.30 P.M.

St. George Littledale, despite being a famous hunter, never killed a Wolf. It was too big for him to handle and he had to return to camp. However, this did not stop him from writing about wolves. He had no idea the ram would prove so dangerous and that hunters could survive in such situations. Littledale's story is also included in the book. Littledale's trip to the Arctic inspired him to write this book.
