Around 110 people are killed each day by guns in the United States. New York City alone records 870 gun-related deaths every year. Each year, there are more than 10,300 hate crime committed with firearms in the United States. While these numbers seem alarming, the truth is that gun violence is a problem in every American community. Many times, politicians and the gun lobby have been trying to stop change for far too long. This has prevented any common-sense measures to reduce the problem.

Everytown's Community Safety Fund

The Community Safety Fund will fund community violence prevention programs by funding twice as much. The goal of the initiative is to support 100 local organizations fighting gun violence by 2021. In the beginning, the fund will support two types grantmaking: long term support grants that support peer involvement and capacity building; and smaller, sustainer grants. The Everytown Foundation committed to fighting the epidemic by reducing gun violence in our community.

Its 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliate

Everytown's non-profit affiliate, 501(c),(4), spends money on unrelated expenditures. Their expenditures go mainly to support Democratic candidates. They spent $195,769 for Democratic candidates in the most recent midterm elections. Everytown provided money only to five Republicans. Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has donated $50 million to the organization's anti-gun campaigns.

Its lobbying spendings

Last year, Everytown spent $386,922 on lobbying for gun control initiatives. One-half of that sum went to Democratic candidates. The other half went to three Republicans. $54,247 was used to help them. Majority of the money was used to support candidates for the Democratic Party. Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg provided much of the funding. These expenditures demonstrate that Everytown not only supports gun control policies but also has a larger agenda that targets violence within America.

Its fundraising efforts

Everytown's fight against gun violence is centered on students. Everytown has partnered with organizations across the country to advocate for gun control. Many of these organizations have been funded by Bloomberg through ballot initiative committees. Nevadans For Background Checks and Mainers For Responsible Gun Ownership are examples of such groups. Other organizations include: the Oregon Democracy Fund and South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
